As a member congregation of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC), we at Faith Church affirm the traditional Christian understanding of marriage as the union of one man and one woman.
Desiring to be faithful to God’s Word, we affirm that marriage, designed and established by God for the well being and happiness of humankind, is a covenantal relationship between one man and one woman, intended to last as long as they both shall live.
As a church committed to the authority of the Bible, we do not and cannot give our approval to ‘same-sex marriage,’ as so many in our culture are doing. We hold this position not because of any hatred or fear of persons with same-sex attraction, but because the Bible is clear in its teachings on this matter. We believe that God loves homosexual sinners and heterosexual sinners alike, and that Jesus died for both homosexual sinners and heterosexual sinners. God’s saving grace in Jesus Christ is given free of charge to people who don’t deserve it and never will. Which is all of us, regardless of our sexual orientation.
Faith Church is a place of grace where Jesus is Lord and every person counts. However, we cannot approve of what God disapproves. The Bible warns against calling something right or good when God says it is wrong (Isaiah 5:20). At all times, in all things, we seek to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15), knowing that it is by our love for one another – and for those who disagree with us – that others will see that we really are followers of Jesus.
Our hearts are heavy for our nation and for churches or denominations which have redefined marriage to give approval to same-sex unions.
For anyone seeking a church home where the traditional Christian definition of marriage is affirmed and upheld, we invite you to consider Faith Church Kingstowne. If God so leads you, we will be happy to welcome you to the fellowship of Faith.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Neil Smith
